When I think about fashion all that comes to mind is what will be the next trend. These days all we see is past trends coming back with a different style. Who will go for the 80’s or even 70’s and I’m not going to go way back because we are young. hahaha But even though we weren’t in that certain time we are obsessed with past trends. Designers are creating amazing styles but they all have an inspiration from past trends.
One of my favorite Brands is Gucci, Influential, innovative and progressive, further reinforcing its position as one of the world’s most desirable fashion houses. Eclectic, contemporary, romantic—Gucci products represent the Italian craftsmanship and are unsurpassed for their quality and attention to detail. this Brand is and will always be more is better.
Kelley Boster is the creator of Refash Studios for men and women. Kelley has come with a Fashion forward Brand and more affordable for those who are obsessed with brands like Gucci like me.
Her idea is to reuse items and mix them with other pieces. This Dress is crafted with two materials, the body is all sequence when the sleeves are denim pieces with a butterfly detail. All of her pieces are crafted with so much detail and the best part is that it can be purchased here in St Louis, Refash Studios is for sure not for boring people and for those who want one of a kind items, because of its originality on every piece every item is unique and won’t find another one like it.
I reached out to Kelley Boster and wanted to find with her own words to share her passion and find out how Refash Studios was born.
1. WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION TO LAUNCH THIS BRAND?
I believe the honest answer is that I was just “shopped out” and tired of all the repetition of mainstream stores and “me-too” styles. I could no longer find any new ideas or fresh fashion options. I had even exhausted my excitement for the quirky vintage pieces that had been my salvation for the prior two years. I began to really experiment with mixed-prints/pattern ensembles and quickly realized that although it was “the next level” for originality and style it was not going to be enough to satisfy me for long. I was going to need to achieve the excitement and the creativity within the item itself, rather than the ensemble as an “after-market” process. Mixing the best of the styles I had once loved to create new one-of-a-kind statement jackets, dresses and layering pieces has created unlimited possibilities and an eye-popping “wow factor” that I just love. #wearableart #ecofashion #ooak
2. WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND, DOES FASHION RUN IN THE FAMILY?
Actually I spent more than a decade and a half in corporate America primarily leading teams and initiatives in creative problem-solving. It was my job to optimize efficiency and thereby performance for specific key measures. “Maximizer” is also one of my strengths so I don’t go small into something worthwhile. I give it my all. When my business and fashion worlds merged it kind of took on a life of its own. Yes, the women in my family have always been able to sew but until recently it was not a skill I could claim. Let’s put it this way, I wasn’t born a natural at the sewing wheel. It’s taken many, many hours of instruction and practice to feel truly confident and able to navigate the details. It’s a labor of love I will continue – – even if I never sold another damn thing!
3. CREATIVITY, DETAILS, SEWING, 3 WORDS VERY STRONG IN REFASH STUDIOS WHAT DO THEY MEAN TO YOU?
“In Order to Be Irreplaceable One Must Always Be Different” … Coco Channel
ReFash Studios strives to provide an oasis of easy-to-wear everyday glam pieces to those seeking refuge from the sea of same-ness and “me-too” fashions.
4. WHAT IS NEXT FOR REFASH STUDIOS?
In the short-term – For S/S ’17 we have some amazing fun new layering pieces for our “ReFashionistas” to discover and enjoy (i.e. Embellished vintage Japanese kimonos, military style separates, sequin bombers & tunics, more of our whimsy cocktail clutches, etc.)
Longer-term what’s next for ReFash Studios is to continue to evolve. We are always acquiring new skills, equipment and ideas that expand the scope of “what is possible” and “what’s next”! Also we plan to do a few more runway shows this year. Shows really are a great way to push yourself to the next level. The pressure of a show really forces you to think about what is “runway worthy” not just “what will sell”. That means it has to be the very best I am capable of or can even imagine. This is when breakthroughs happen for me.
5. HOW DO YOU STAY UP TO DATE WITH FASHION?
Honestly there are so many trend reports. Often it’s just a retailer trying to promote their own inventory. But I’m obsessed with ideas so I’m always watching. I especially enjoy the videos from NYFW and new collections of the big fashion houses that I love. New ideas mix with old favorites and somehow my fashions emerge from the “lump of clay” of the original garment. They reveal themselves to me when the time is right. Sometimes they need to be freed from yards of extra fabric and monotonous print (i.e. too long of a skirt, too much collar, etc.). But it rarely stops there. Once you’re back to the good bones of the garment, now is the time to build up with new life. Like music the garment needs to harmonize and balance to be pleasing and memorable. It should not be too predictable or it will just fade into the background of blah. #dontbeboring #everydayglam
